The 4-pair version offers a smaller OD and lighter weight, making it preferable for compact ROV subsystems or where only 4 signal channels are needed. The 8-pair version (n=787) is recommended when more channels are required in a single cable run.
Yes. Modbus RTU uses RS-485 signalling, which is fully supported by the 20AWG screened twisted pairs. With proper bus termination, Modbus RTU runs of several hundred metres are achievable.
