ROV composite neutrally buoyant tether cable. Multi-function composite design with power, signal, and fiber in a single foamed PUR neutrally buoyant ROV tether.
The ROV composite neutrally buoyant tether is a fully configurable multi-function tether cable that combines power conductors, signal twisted pairs, and optical fiber cores within a single foamed PUR neutrally buoyant jacket. The composite design allows the ROV integrator to specify exactly the conductor types, counts, and cross-sections required for their vehicle, eliminating the need for multiple separate tether cables. The foamed polyurethane (PUR) jacket uses a micro-cellular expanded jacket compound with a bulk density lower than seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), giving the cable near-zero or positive net buoyancy. This eliminates tether sag and reduces drag force on the ROV, improving vehicle manoeuvrability and reducing tether management workload during subsea operations.

The jacket is manufactured from a micro-cellular expanded (foamed) polyurethane compound. During extrusion, a controlled foaming agent creates millions of tiny closed-cell air pockets within the jacket wall. These air cells reduce the bulk density of the jacket below that of seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), producing positive or neutral net buoyancy. The jacket retains all the abrasion resistance, oil resistance, and flexibility of standard PUR while achieving the buoyancy needed for ROV tether applications.
Provide: (1) Electrical power: core count + cross-section + voltage; (2) Signal: pair count + AWG + shielding; (3) Fiber: SM or MM + core count; (4) Buoyancy: required buoyancy per metre (g/m) in seawater; (5) Tensile strength: required MBS (kg); (6) Overall OD target (mm) and depth rating (m); (7) Jacket colour and reel length. We will produce a full datasheet, cross-section drawing, and price.
