RG59 ROV Underwater Camera Cable Coaxial Braided Reinforced | Foamed

RG59 ROV underwater camera cable, coaxial, braided reinforced waterblocked. Foamed PUR for buoyant ROV camera cable combining video transmission and mechanical strength.

Product introduction

RG59 ROV Underwater Camera Cable -- Coaxial Braided Reinforced Waterblocked Foamed

The RG59 ROV camera cable combines a 75-Ohm RG59 coaxial core (for CVBS or AHD 1080p video), braided reinforcement (Kevlar or steel for tensile strength), waterblocking (gel-filled or dry tape to prevent water migration through the cable core in the event of jacket damage), and a foamed PUR buoyant jacket. This four-function design makes the cable simultaneously a video conductor, a load-bearing tether, a waterproof seal, and a buoyant tether. The foamed polyurethane (PUR) jacket uses a micro-cellular expanded jacket compound with a bulk density lower than seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), giving the cable near-zero or positive net buoyancy. This eliminates tether sag and reduces drag force on the ROV, improving vehicle manoeuvrability and reducing tether management workload during subsea operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the foamed jacket achieve buoyancy?

The jacket is manufactured from a micro-cellular expanded (foamed) polyurethane compound. During extrusion, a controlled foaming agent creates millions of tiny closed-cell air pockets within the jacket wall. These air cells reduce the bulk density of the jacket below that of seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), producing positive or neutral net buoyancy. The jacket retains all the abrasion resistance, oil resistance, and flexibility of standard PUR while achieving the buoyancy needed for ROV tether applications.

What is waterblocking and why is it needed?

Waterblocking prevents water from migrating along the cable core if the outer jacket is cut or penetrated. Without waterblocking, seawater enters through any jacket damage and travels the length of the cable by capillary action, reaching connectors and electronics. Gel-filled waterblocking (petroleum gel in all voids) is the traditional method; modern dry waterblocking tape swells on contact with water to form a hydrophobic seal. Both methods are effective -- gel is heavier but more robust.

Applications

  • ROV and AUV deployment tethers for power, data and video transmission to subsea vehicles
  • Neutrally buoyant tether cables for free-swimming ROV operations with minimal drag
  • Subsea ROV tooling and intervention system umbilicals requiring high-strength construction
  • Offshore inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) ROV tether cable assemblies
  • Deep-sea research vehicle systems requiring reliable tether cable performance at depth

Customization Options
