The 4x9/125 SM fiber + 10x0.34mm² hybrid cable is the high-bandwidth ROV tether solution for systems requiring simultaneous optical fiber data links and multi-channel copper control conductors in a single cable. Four OS2 single-mode fibers (9/125 μm) carry Gigabit and 10-Gigabit Ethernet, HD/4K video, and DWDM data streams to the surface, while ten 0.34mm² copper conductors carry RS-485 control, serial data, analog sensor signals, and low-power supply in the same compact PUR-jacketed construction.

Why 4 fibers and not 2?

Two fibers provide one duplex optical channel (Tx + Rx). Four fibers provide two independent duplex channels: one for the main high-bandwidth link (e.g., 10 Gbps Ethernet for HD video and data) and a second for redundancy or a separate lower-bandwidth control channel (e.g., 1 Gbps for remote control and telemetry). Redundancy is important in mission-critical ROV operations.

What is the maximum data rate over 4x9/125 SM fiber?

OS2 single-mode fiber supports 100 Gbps+ at the physical layer. In practice, ROV systems use 1 Gbps (1000BASE-LX) or 10 Gbps (10GBASE-LR) optical transceivers. For 4K uncompressed video (12 Gbps), 10G transceivers on two fiber pairs provide 20 Gbps total capacity. DWDM multiplexing on the same fiber supports dozens of wavelength channels at 10--100 Gbps each.
