2x28AWG Robotic Camera Tether Underwater | Foamed Neutral Buoyant

2x28AWG robotic camera tether underwater cable. Lightweight foamed PUR jacket for miniature underwater cameras and micro-ROV tether applications requiring minimal drag.

Product introduction

2x28AWG Robotic Underwater Camera Tether -- Foamed Neutral Buoyant PUR

The 2x28AWG underwater robotic camera tether is an ultra-lightweight foamed tether designed for miniature underwater cameras and micro-ROV systems where the tether diameter and drag must be minimised. 28AWG conductors (0.08mm², ~1.5A) are suitable for low-power camera modules, LED lighting, and compact sensor electronics. The foamed PUR jacket provides positive buoyancy in the tiny diameter required by miniature cameras and pipe-inspection micro-robots. The foamed polyurethane (PUR) jacket uses a micro-cellular expanded jacket compound with a bulk density lower than seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), giving the cable near-zero or positive net buoyancy. This eliminates tether sag and reduces drag force on the ROV, improving vehicle manoeuvrability and reducing tether management workload during subsea operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the foamed jacket achieve buoyancy?

The jacket is manufactured from a micro-cellular expanded (foamed) polyurethane compound. During extrusion, a controlled foaming agent creates millions of tiny closed-cell air pockets within the jacket wall. These air cells reduce the bulk density of the jacket below that of seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), producing positive or neutral net buoyancy. The jacket retains all the abrasion resistance, oil resistance, and flexibility of standard PUR while achieving the buoyancy needed for ROV tether applications.

What cameras can this tether power?

28AWG (1.5A per core) supports: miniature analog CCTV modules (30--60 mA), compact IP camera modules (150--300 mA at 5V), LED lighting arrays up to 5W, and low-power sensor boards (Arduino, ESP32 etc.). For higher-power cameras (standard CCTV, GoPro), upgrade to 26AWG or 24AWG. Contact us for the correct AWG for your camera power budget.
