8 Core ROV Tether 2x1.5mm2 + 3x2x24AWG | Neutrally Buoyant Foamed

8-core neutrally buoyant ROV tether: 2x1.5mm2 power + 3x2x24AWG twisted pairs. Foamed PUR for ROV with power and three shielded data pairs in one buoyant tether.

Product introduction

8 Core ROV Tether 2x1.5mm2 + 3x2x24AWG -- Neutrally Buoyant Foamed PUR

The 2x1.5mm² + 3x2x24AWG neutral buoyant ROV tether provides two power conductors (1.5mm² for ROV thruster and supply power) and three shielded 24AWG twisted pairs (for Ethernet 100BASE-TX, RS-485, and analog sensor data) in a single foamed PUR jacket. The 24AWG pairs meet Cat5e electrical specifications, supporting 100 Mbps Ethernet (100BASE-TX) alongside the power cores in the same tether. The foamed polyurethane (PUR) jacket uses a micro-cellular expanded jacket compound with a bulk density lower than seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), giving the cable near-zero or positive net buoyancy. This eliminates tether sag and reduces drag force on the ROV, improving vehicle manoeuvrability and reducing tether management workload during subsea operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the foamed jacket achieve buoyancy?

The jacket is manufactured from a micro-cellular expanded (foamed) polyurethane compound. During extrusion, a controlled foaming agent creates millions of tiny closed-cell air pockets within the jacket wall. These air cells reduce the bulk density of the jacket below that of seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), producing positive or neutral net buoyancy. The jacket retains all the abrasion resistance, oil resistance, and flexibility of standard PUR while achieving the buoyancy needed for ROV tether applications.

Can the 3 twisted pairs carry Ethernet, RS-485, and analog simultaneously?

Yes. Each pair is independent. A typical allocation: Pair 1 -- 100BASE-TX Ethernet (for IP camera stream); Pair 2 -- RS-485 differential control bus (Modbus RTU, e.g., thruster controller); Pair 3 -- analog 4-20mA or 0-10V sensor signal. The individual pair shielding prevents cross-talk between protocols within the cable.
