Flexible 2 Core Power + 4 Core Signal Neutral Buoyant ROV Cable

Flexible neutral buoyant ROV cable with 2 power cores and 4 signal cores. Foamed PUR jacket, high flexibility for ROV tether, AUV, and underwater robot power and control.

Product introduction

Flexible 2 Power + 4 Signal Neutral Buoyant ROV Cable

The flexible 6-core neutral buoyant ROV cable (2 power + 4 signal) balances power delivery, multi-channel signal, and high-flex performance in a foamed PUR jacket. Fine-stranded conductors and a flex-rated foamed jacket compound enable repeated bending in sheave and drum winch systems without conductor fatigue or jacket cracking, making this cable suitable for ROV tether applications where the cable must cycle through a sheave many times during a dive. The foamed polyurethane (PUR) jacket uses a micro-cellular expanded jacket compound with a bulk density lower than seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), giving the cable near-zero or positive net buoyancy. This eliminates tether sag and reduces drag force on the ROV, improving vehicle manoeuvrability and reducing tether management workload during subsea operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the foamed jacket achieve buoyancy?

The jacket is manufactured from a micro-cellular expanded (foamed) polyurethane compound. During extrusion, a controlled foaming agent creates millions of tiny closed-cell air pockets within the jacket wall. These air cells reduce the bulk density of the jacket below that of seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), producing positive or neutral net buoyancy. The jacket retains all the abrasion resistance, oil resistance, and flexibility of standard PUR while achieving the buoyancy needed for ROV tether applications.

What is the minimum bend radius for this cable?

For the dynamic high-flex variant, the minimum bend radius is 7.5x the cable outer diameter (OD). For a 10 mm OD cable, the minimum bend radius is 75 mm. For static installation (occasional bending), 5x OD is acceptable. Specify the sheave diameter and number of daily flex cycles when ordering to confirm the correct flex construction.

Applications

  • ROV and AUV deployment tethers for power, data and video transmission to subsea vehicles
  • Neutrally buoyant tether cables for free-swimming ROV operations with minimal drag
  • Subsea ROV tooling and intervention system umbilicals requiring high-strength construction
  • Offshore inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) ROV tether cable assemblies
  • Deep-sea research vehicle systems requiring reliable tether cable performance at depth

Customization Options
