PUR double-jacket floating cable with 2x0.5mm2 power and 6x0.2mm2 signal cores. 8-core foamed floating cable for compact ROV tether and underwater robot applications.
The PUR double-jacket 8-core floating cable (2x0.5mm² power + 6x0.2mm² signal) features a dual-layer jacket construction: a solid PUR inner jacket provides moisture sealing and conductor protection, while the outer foamed micro-cellular PUR jacket provides buoyancy, abrasion resistance, and the distinctive floating characteristic. With 6 fine 0.2mm² signal cores alongside 2 power cores, this cable suits compact ROV systems with multiple sensor inputs and low-power supply requirements. The foamed polyurethane (PUR) jacket uses a micro-cellular expanded jacket compound with a bulk density lower than seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), giving the cable near-zero or positive net buoyancy. This eliminates tether sag and reduces drag force on the ROV, improving vehicle manoeuvrability and reducing tether management workload during subsea operations.

The jacket is manufactured from a micro-cellular expanded (foamed) polyurethane compound. During extrusion, a controlled foaming agent creates millions of tiny closed-cell air pockets within the jacket wall. These air cells reduce the bulk density of the jacket below that of seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), producing positive or neutral net buoyancy. The jacket retains all the abrasion resistance, oil resistance, and flexibility of standard PUR while achieving the buoyancy needed for ROV tether applications.
The inner solid PUR jacket provides the first moisture barrier around the conductors, even if the outer foamed jacket is abraded or cut. The outer foamed layer's abrasion resistance protects the inner jacket in rock and reef environments. The double construction gives the cable significantly longer service life than a single foamed jacket alone, especially in shallow-water rocky environments.
