Photoelectric Underwater Connectors -- Optical Fiber and Power Combined Series | IP68 | 7000m

Shanghai Kabel Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd photoelectric (optical fiber + power) underwater connector series. Simultaneous fiber optic data and power in one IP68, 7000m rated wet-mateable connector.

Product introduction

Photoelectric Underwater Connectors -- Optical Fiber + Power in One Wet-Mateable Body

Shanghai Kabel Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd Photoelectric Series combines optical fiber data channels and electrical power contacts in a single wet-mateable underwater connector -- eliminating the need for two separate penetrations when a system requires both high-bandwidth data and power at the same connection point. Rated to 7,000 m depth and IP68 sealed, the series is used across ROV camera systems, subsea communications hubs, acoustic modems, and fiber-optic sensor networks.

Available configurations combine 1, 2, or 4 fiber channels with 2 or 4 power contacts. Fiber types: single-mode (SM) or multimode (MM) 50/125 or 62.5/125 micron. Power contacts rated to 600 V AC/DC.

Series Configuration Matrix

Model Fiber Channels Power Contacts Total Elements Typical Use

Advantages of Hybrid Fiber-Electric Connectors

  • Single penetration: One connector, one pressure housing port -- reduces sealing complexity and leak risk versus two separate connectors.
  • Bandwidth + power together: Fiber channels carry unlimited bandwidth (Gigabit or beyond) while power contacts supply the instrument -- no separate power cable required.
  • No electromagnetic interference: Fiber channels are inherently immune to EMI from power contacts and external fields -- critical for acoustic and scientific sensors.
  • 7,000 m qualification: Fiber ferrule alignment and sealing are maintained at full rated pressure without degradation in insertion loss.

Applications

  • ROV camera systems with fiber video + power supply
  • Subsea acoustic modems and communications hubs
  • Fiber-optic oceanographic sensors (fluorometers, CTDs with fiber output)
  • AUV fiber-optic umbilical termination connectors
  • Subsea observatory nodes -- fiber backbone + power distribution
  • Offshore ROV inspection systems with fiber video link

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the insertion loss penalty for wet-mating a fiber connector?

Shanghai Kabel photoelectric connectors achieve less than 0.5 dB typical insertion loss per mating under controlled conditions. In field wet-mating, allow up to 1.0 dB -- verify with an optical power meter after mating if your system has a tight link budget.

Can the fiber channels support Gigabit Ethernet?

Yes. Multimode 50/125 um fiber channels support 1000BASE-SX (Gigabit Ethernet) over typical ROV tether lengths. Single-mode channels support 1000BASE-LX over long distances. Specify SM or MM when ordering based on your transceiver type.

Can power and fiber be connected independently, or must both mate simultaneously?

The connector mates as one unit -- both fiber and power contacts engage simultaneously on full insertion and coupling ring engagement. Partial engagement is not recommended as it may leave power contacts exposed or fiber ferrules misaligned.
