ROV Tether with Connector 100kg Breaking Strength | Assembled Cable

ROV tether cable assembly with connectors and 100kg breaking strength. Pre-terminated ROV tether with waterproof connectors and 100kg MBS for compact ROV tether systems.

Product introduction

ROV Tether with Connector Assembly -- 100kg Breaking Strength

The ROV tether with connector assembly is a ready-to-deploy tether system combining a foamed PUR buoyant tether cable with factory-fitted waterproof connectors at both ends and a 100kg minimum breaking strength tether (25kg WLL with 4:1 safety factor). All connectors are assembled, sealed, and pressure-tested at the factory before shipment. This eliminates on-site termination, ensures connector integrity, and provides a plug-and-play tether for compact and mini-ROV operators. The foamed polyurethane (PUR) jacket uses a micro-cellular expanded jacket compound with a bulk density lower than seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), giving the cable near-zero or positive net buoyancy. This eliminates tether sag and reduces drag force on the ROV, improving vehicle manoeuvrability and reducing tether management workload during subsea operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the foamed jacket achieve buoyancy?

The jacket is manufactured from a micro-cellular expanded (foamed) polyurethane compound. During extrusion, a controlled foaming agent creates millions of tiny closed-cell air pockets within the jacket wall. These air cells reduce the bulk density of the jacket below that of seawater (~1.025 g/cm³), producing positive or neutral net buoyancy. The jacket retains all the abrasion resistance, oil resistance, and flexibility of standard PUR while achieving the buoyancy needed for ROV tether applications.

What connector types are available for the pre-terminated assembly?

Standard options: 4-pin waterproof aviation connector (IP68, M12 or M16), SubConn-compatible MCIL/MCBH wet-mate circular, ROV-specific locking bulkhead connectors, and custom-specified types. The connector pitch and pin count depend on your tether conductor configuration. All assemblies are pressure-tested to 1.5x the rated depth before dispatch. Please provide: (1) ROV-side connector type and mating information; (2) Topside unit connector type; (3) Required depth rating; (4) Required cable length.

Can I specify a longer tether for this assembly?

Yes. Specify the required length at time of order (minimum 10 m, maximum 1,000 m). For tethers >300 m, we recommend upgrading to a Kevlar-reinforced strength member to support the tether weight-in-water. For tethers requiring a mid-water connection point (for field extension), we can supply a waterproof tether union at any intermediate point.

Applications

  • ROV and AUV deployment tethers for power, data and video transmission to subsea vehicles
  • Neutrally buoyant tether cables for free-swimming ROV operations with minimal drag
  • Subsea ROV tooling and intervention system umbilicals requiring high-strength construction
  • Offshore inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) ROV tether cable assemblies
  • Deep-sea research vehicle systems requiring reliable tether cable performance at depth

Customization Options

  • Custom conductor configurations: power cores, twisted pairs, coaxial, fiber optic combinations
  • Neutral buoyancy engineered for specific seawater density and operating depth ranges
  • Kevlar, polyester or Dyneema strength member options for required break strength
  • TPU, PUR or specialized jacket materials for optimal flex life and abrasion resistance
  • Direct connector termination and over-moulding for plug-and-play system integration
